On the Moon

on my first day on the moon i thought about cotton candy. i wanted to feel it disappear in my mouth and feed pieces of it to raccoons just to watch them try to wash it and find comfort in their confusion after it disappears. i opened the toothpaste bottle and spelled my name with it on the bathroom mirror as i thought about the jelly-like monsters willy wonka escaped in charlie and the marvelous glass elevator or whatever the chocolate factory sequel was called. on my first day on the moon i tasted my mother’s multi-vites as i drank orange juice at the breakfast table.
